Chevron Helps Fuel Smiles

Smile Train’s local team in Indonesia, in collaboration with Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI) provided free cleft lip and palate surgeries at RSUD Mandau Hospital, Bengkalis District, Riau Province.

At the event celebrating the partnership Sainur Arif, CPI’s Sumatera Operation Policy, Government & Public Affairs General Manager, confirmed that the free cleft lip and palate surgery programme is one of Chevron’s most successful CSR programs for the community in Riau province. The free cleft surgeries achieved through Smile Train and CPI’s partnership are helping to improve the quality of lives of the patients as well as the community in general.

Chevron committed to fully support the cost of transportation and accommodation of all the patients and their families from various areas in Riau, and also provided the food for the patients and families during their stay at Mandau hospital.

After the initial screening, 37 patients received free cleft repair surgery and now have new smiles, new lives, and renewed hope.

The mother of two of the children benefiting from this partnership, Mrs. Mismawati, was filled with gratitude after her daughters were able to finally receive the help they so desperately needed. Hear what Mrs. Mismawati has to say about Smile Train and CPI in her own words (video above).

The association of wives of the expatriate workers of CPI also raised funds to help support the cost of surgeries. They raised enough for more than 10 additional surgeries for children in Indonesia.
